About the program:
Our Pulmonary Program is designed to improve patient’s confidence, exercise tolerance and increase education around lung disease and exercise. Exercise is a core component in the management of patients with chronic respiratory diseases. Our program is designed to optimise function, reduce respiratory symptoms and improve endurance and general muscle strength and function. Through our comprehensive rehabilitation service our team will develop an individualised and specialised rehabilitation plan tailored to your needs and ability levels.
Who can benefit from this program?
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is suitable for those with diseases such as Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema and other respiratory diseases.
The program aims:
Each patient is assessed individually by our rehabilitation team under the direction of an accredited Rehabilitation Specialist, who together will develop a rehabilitation plan according to the individual’s particular needs. Programs are designed to optimise function, reduce symptoms and improve overall quality of life. Our multidisciplinary team will work with each patient to help them regain independence and resume their day to day life.
The aims of our Pulmonary Program include improving:
- Ability to complete activities of daily living
- Breathlessness
- Sputum clearance techniques
- Cardiovascular fitness and exercise capacity
- Muscular strength and flexibility
- Respiratory related hospital admissions
- Physical, psychological, and social recovery
- Lifestyle and reducing risk factors
- Successful return to work, home and recreational activities
Our team will work in collaboration with you, your GP and other specialists to achieve a holistic assessment and integrated treatment regime dedicated to minimising the effect of disability.
This program may include:
- Group or 1:1 physiotherapy with graded activity aimed at progressively increasing general strength, joint range of movements and mobility.
- Exercise physiology focusing on improving cardiovascular endurance, exercise tolerance and overall function.
- Hydrotherapy
- Occupational Therapy focusing on retraining safe self-care techniques, organising equipment and ensuring safe home set up for discharge
- Social Work as needed to organise services for discharge
- Dietetics involving education about healthy eating
- Information about medication management
